THE CIRCUS IS BACK IN TOWN: KOOZA BY CIRQUE DU SOLEIL DELIVERS MUCH NEEDED LAUGHTER AND JOY

KOOZA is pure MAGIC!

It’s a nostalgic nod to the circus of your childhood, a return to the art of clowning where the fun and laughter is non-stop from start to finish!

KOOZA: A Traditional Circus Homage

While the show notes says:

KOOZA is a return to Cirque du Soleil’s origins, it combines acrobatic performance and the art of clowning, while exploring fear, identity, recognition and power. The Innocent’s journey brings him into contact with comic characters from an electrifying world full of surprises, thrills, audacity and total involvement.

It is SO. MUCH. MORE.

We absolutely agree that “KOOZA is a show that blends, almost to perfection, its subcontinental sounds, its stunning lighting and costumes with theatrical ingenuity and acrobatic wonder.” (The Indepedent, London)

Dreaming of watching Cirque du Soleil

As an immigrant newcomer, I have always dreamed of attending one of Cirque du Soleil’s world-famous shows.

After all, Cirque was a Quebec-made, proudly Canadian company that took the Art of Circusing (that’s a proper word, yes?) into a stratospheric level.  It became the GOLD Standard of Circus performance known the world over.

Back then, that dream seemed so unreachable. Even when we were in Las Vegas, I was hoping to catch some of the Cirque du Soleil shows that were in residency in famous hotels like the “O” in the Bellagio and “KA” in the MGM Grand Hotel.

Alas, they were not to be as they were out of my budget at that time…

But DREAMS DO COME TRUE.

You just have to keep on believing.

I have been so fortunate that my family and I have attended many a Cirque du Soleil shows over the years. Even more fortunate to attend its many premieres (from Ottawa to Montreal to Toronto) and was even granted the privilege of going behind the scenes.

When Allegria and Totem came to town, me and the Twenty York Street Team were granted the unique opportunity to not only attend the rehearsal night (which means that the entire show was performed in front of a handful of members of the media so we had the Big Top all to ourselves! Talk about Super VIP!) but we also got to enter backstage to see the magic behind the scenes and to interview some of the Cirque du Soleil cast.

KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil hosts a Successful Premiere in Gatineau at Place des Festivals Zibi

As to be expected for any production by Cirque du Soleil, KOOZA’s premiere in the nation’s capital was absolutely festive!
The energy was abuzz at Place des Festivals Zibi and the entertainment top notch even before the guests stepped into the Big Top. Guests were warmly welcomed with champagne, wine, drinks and popcorn at last Friday’s premiere at KOOZA by Cirque du Soleil, presented by Sun Life Global Investments.
The audiences were surprised and thoroughly delighted by the acrobatic extravaganza and bold comedy with each act more stunning than the last.

If you’ve been to other Cirque shows, you will find KOOZA to be more lighthearted. While it may not be full of death defying stunts (there are still some, don’t you worry!) it is definitely full of life affirming laughter and fun!

It’s no big surprise that KOOZA’s first performance in Gatineau ended with a standing ovation under the Big Top!
