For many years now and even before we had this blog, Twenty York Street, we’ve had a yearly tradition of excitedly doing a countdown for August for one of the summer’s biggest spectacle – the Annual Casino du Lac Leamy Fireworks – Sound of Light International Fireworks Competition. Over the years, we have scouted different locations downtown in search of the most perfect site to witness this extravagant explosion in the sky.

The answer?

While there are so many fantastic sites to witness the magic of the Casino du Lac Leamy Fireworks display such as the Nepean Point, the Bytown Locks or the bridge right beside the Fairmont Chateau Laurier, there is no doubt the best place to experience it is right on site! And since 2014, the Sound of Light Competition has been held at the massive yet stunning backyard of the Canadian Museum of History.

We’ve only witnessed 2 shows so far by Ontario and Manitoba but already, we are in deep awe!

CASINO LAC LEAMY FIREWORKS: BRIEF HISTORY BEHIND THE SOUND OF LIGHT SHOW

Considered to be a world class event, the Sound of Light has built a reputation in the pyrotechnical industry as being one of the best fireworks events in the whole world. Since 1996, the team behind the Sound of Light have been producing incredible shows, recognized as an integral part of the international pyromusical circuit.

What is a pyromusical show? It is a fireworks display synchronized or choreographed to a musical soundtrack. The result? An incredibly awe-inspiring performance that’s an absolute delight for both the ears and the eyes.

Lighting up the sky right on the border of Quebec and Ontario, the much-anticipated display in the sky is a pride of tourism organizations from both provinces and is produced by a non-profit organization – Les Grands feux Lac-Leamy. Since 2012, the production of all these colorful performances has been headed by Yannick Roy and Royal Pyrotechnie, who hailed from Saint-Pie, Quebec. A family run business,  Royal Pyrotechnie has been a leader in the pyrotechnics industry for almost half a century and has garnered many awards and accolades the world over.

This year, the Casino Lac-Leamy’s Sound of Light , with major presenting sponsors Casino Lac Leamy, National Bank and Tim Horton’s, is poised for a momentous edition, a special 2017 #Canada150 edition from Aug 5 to 19th.

CASINO LAC LEAMY FIREWORKS: PRESENTING THE 2017 SOUND OF LIGHT ALL-CANADIAN LINE UP FOR #CANADA510

In honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary as a nation, Ottawa’s sky will be lighted up like never before. Four designers from four different provinces will present original displays inspired by Canada’s people and history. The Sound of Light spectacular is back with a distinct Canadiana flair like Ontario’s presentation of Canada as a truly multicultural society. With a soundtrack of all Canadian music from foot-stomping, hand-clapping musical tales from the Eastern shores, to songs that speak of our struggles or to hard-rocking tracks that unite us all, Ontario put together a magnificent pyromusical show that speaks to our pride and legacy as a people.

“Our event has always been a place of wonder, discovery and surprises. With the pyromusical shows of course, but also with the artistic programming that accompanies them. This exceptional year allows us to come back to our roots and make room for what inspires us almost as much as fireworks: music, street arts and acrobatics with a small touch of dreams and fantasy.”
