Before I begin this post, I wanted to ask… Have you had a chance to see Brené Brown’s powerful talk on “THE POWER OF VULNERABILITY” at TED Talks? If not, please grab yourself a warm cup of coffee or a comforting cup of tea and go see it. It may be the exact thing you need to see as we welcome 2016 with renewed hope and spirits.
THE POWER OF VULNERABILITY
Last post, I did exactly that. I showed my vulnerability and it was admittedly very, very scary.
I was scared primarily because it was too raw, too honest. It was far from the perfectly crafted image we normally post on social media that I fear this kind of heartfelt writing may push my current and sponsors away. I fear that my readers and followers would be turned off with such unnatural outburst of emotions that depicted a far less balanced and perfect life.
THE PERFECTLY PICTURED LIFE
Boy was I ever wrong. Few hours after I posted that article, everything was silent. I had no comments, no e-mails, no nothing. I was discouraged and had second doubts, perhaps I should’ve just stuck to pretty photos and positive thinking.

WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
But courage is borne out of vulnerability and so I strengthened my faith and my faith did not fail me. A few more hours after, the e-mails and the comments not only rained but in fact, it rained cats and dogs. I received countless e-mails, offers, proposals, invitations, partnerships and new collaborations. As a matter of fact, I also received an invitation to be a Keynote Speaker at a prominent Public Relations Conference in one of the most prestigious universities in Canada. To reach out to students and academics on the power of public relations and social media is both a very exciting opportunity and huge responsibility. But wow very cool is that?!
