SUMMER FUN: COWBOY HATS AND KEMPTVILLE #RIBFEST

KEMPTVILLE RIBFEST WITH ANGELO

KEMPTVILLE RIBFEST - 2

Ah… summertime. I just don’t think I can love any other season than summer. The weather is warm and the living is easy! Gone are the layers of clothes and the grumpy attitude. I mean, who would be in a festive mood when every time you step outside, it’s Old Man Winter greeting you with fresh massive snowfall and wet slushy sidewalks. Not during summer my friends. For 3 glorious months (well, here’s to hopin’ and prayin’!), we dress light, we live outside and we have fun every minute of everyday!

At least that’s what it feels like and I for one, don’t mind feeling that way, at all!

WHEN IN ROME…

As much as I try to schedule every weekend during summer with endless outdoor activities sometimes, you just have to make room for spontaneous fun and last minute road trips! So… Woke up on Sunday morning, round up friends via Facebook and by noontime, off we go to Kemptville, a quaint town about 25-30 minutes away from downtown Ottawa for their Annual Ribfest.

I don’t think I’ve ever really been to Kemptville except for a sweet intimate wedding of good friends in their own backyard many years ago. I was excited to be back and explore the town a bit more. The ride from Ottawa was short and sweet and the weather couldn’t be more perfect! And so was shopping!

I just had to get this cowboy hat, don’t you think? For $12, it would be a sin to walk away! I have to admit, I haggled for it quite a bit but it worked! I bought a second one for my brother-in-law and paid $10 instead of $20! What can I say? I have a gift!

KEMPTVILLE’S ANNUAL RIBFEST

How much ribs could one person eat? Well apparently, less than what you think you can! We ordered so many – ribs, chicken, poutine (I know!), blooming onion, corn bread, beans and more – but as you can probably guess, did not manage to eat it all. Our eyes bigger than stomachs? Always!

But if you think we ended the food fest right there, you are mistaken my friends! We still headed over to the Kemptville Dairy Queen and had ourselves big servings of blizzards!

KEMPTVILLE RIBFEST - YAZDANI DENTAL

Aside from the shopping, the swags were quite notable at the Kemptville Fair! They were not your usual useless stuff, rather we got ourselves some cool sunnies from Yazdani Dental who were generously giving away #YazdaniSwag like these sunglasses, inflatable beach balls and bracelets.

FREE SWAGS AT HYDRO ONE, YAZDANI DENTAIL AND WIN $120 AT ROXROK

It was such an amazing day spent with family and friends at Kemptville that we’ve all agreed to be back before we have even left! Hydro One had a very engaging booth where you can spin to win prizes and at the same time learn about their new energy efficiency program. Unlike the Sparks Street Rib Fest in Ottawa, which understandably draw a much bigger number, the line up in Kemptville Ribfest was manageable and was in fact, very pleasant as we got to dance and sing along with the retro-inspired band (I believe they were Kemptville locals or originally from the area!) who did such an amazing job in entertaining the crowd!

KEMPTVILLE RIBFEST - HYDRO ONE

Perhaps the most fun was had by Angelo! While we all wanted to grab the $120 cash at the peak of RoxRok, none of us were willing to do the work except Angelo and climbed he did! The kid turned out to be a great and nimble climber, perhaps we should look into enrolling him to a rock climbing camp. Have you guys been to Altitude Gym in Gatineau or the Coyote Rock Gym in Ottawa?

Thank you Shey and Angie for the sweet ride and thank you Doc Jon for the DQ treats!

Until next time Kemptville!
