There is something happening in Canada, right here in Ottawa and many other major cities around the country and it is a big deal.
19, 829 spectators.
That’s more than 20,000 people, along with the players and staff, present at the TD Canada Stadium, home of the Red Blacks and the Ottawa Fury, to witness the Semi-finals of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Norway vs. England and there’s no surprise to that. FIFA is a HUGE deal all over the world. Much like the Olympics and the Para-Olympics, it happens every four years and cities and countries have to bid in a fierce and very costly competition to win the privilege (it’s economic impact is massive and long-lasting) and the honour to host one of the world’s most prestigious and popular sports.
And this time, it is right here in our backyard and if you have the opportunity to go, I absolutely encourage you to do so as it is quite an experience. An experience made possible for me by our very own Ms. Taylor Boileau, Twenty York Street’s PR Staff, and her boyfriend Jon! Got the message a couple of hours before the game and by 5pm, we were frantically looking for parking to get to the TD Stadium – stat!
Since I had a completely different plan for the evening… I had to go shopping in 10 minutes – flat!
FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: EXPERIENCE IT WITH SKECHERS CANADA and NELLA BELLA
While Taylor was perfectly outfitted for the World Cup, with Paris-purchased white Converse and Nella Bella bag and all, she was ready! Me… I was a different story.
Considering my plans for the night did include hanging out with 20,000 of my closest friends at TD Canada Place, I had my high heels on. Fortunately for me, I always carry my Skechers Canada GOWalk 3 Fitknit Extreme with me as it’s such a handy hybrid type of shoes, like a loafer/athletic walking combination. The Go Walk collection actually features a Goga mat technology (yup, as comfy as your favourite Yoga mat!), which means there’s a high-rebound cushioning with responsive feedback. It also has a proprietary ‘SQUISH’ component made with Skechers’ exclusive Resalyte® material + Skechers Performance FitKnit structured breathable mesh for cooling comfort. So, ditched the high heels and went for these super comfy memory foam walkers!

My dress didn’t match the shoes nor was it appropriate for the world-class FIFA soccer match. Solution? Run to Banana Republic and see my stylist BFF / sister from another mother Maria E., who expertly pulled out a dress for me (bonus: on sale!) and in 10 minutes, I was out of there ready to cheer for England!

EXPERIENCE THE THRILL AND EXCITEMENT OF FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP
Why England? Well, with Canada and the Queen and all… It seemed more apropos than cheering for our Scandinavian sisters in the Norway team. Though we were seated right amongst Norway fans, who were evidently very passionate (and quite dressed for the occasion!) in cheering on for their home team!Q Turns out, I would’ve won big money if I placed a bet (do they even bet on the World Cup?) as England emerged victorious in this neck-to-neck match!
CATCH THE 2015 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP UNTIL JULY 5TH
I never imagined I would have another chance to see the World Cup. The first time was at the 2002 FIFA World Cup Japan when me and my sister were in Japan, visiting our Dad in Tokyo. That was, as you can expect, a massive massive event. The crowd inside and outside the stadium was just enormous and the party atmosphere, non-stop! Perhaps that’s one big striking difference for me.
The electric energy continued on the streets of Tokyo long after the game was over. I would love to see that kind of gigantic buzz, not just around the TD Stadium but at downtown Ottawa too. After all, when are we going to host such an enormous global sporting event again? Wait… we do have the PanAm and the Para PanAm games (July 7 -26, 2015) coming up in Toronto, very, very soon!
Overall, it was such an amazing experience! Please do go if you can and in case you want to take me, I would welcome another chance to go see a World Cup match again (and the Red Blacks!)… even the finals! Wink… wink… =)
Un GROS MERCI Taylor and Jon -infinitement! (Perhaps next time you can come Monsieur Pierre Boileau!) A special THANK YOU goes to Chris Alcantara of Skechers, Valerie and Melissa!
