TOP 5 SPRING TRENDS FROM JOE FRESH

JOE FRESH OTTAWA

Remember when two years ago, Ottawa welcomed Joe Fresh grand opening in 2013 in grand festive way? Were you there? If you were, you may recall the massive crowd and the equally long line up to the change room when St. Laurent Shopping Centre hosted the very first free standing Ottawa location (a JOE FRESH not located within a Loblaws), and everyone was so excited about it!

JOE FRESH

Fast forward to today, not much has changed.

FASHIONMAGAZINE-JOEFRESH

The excitement is still palpable. Joe Fresh, our favourite affordable and casual apparel store, hosted a VIP and Media shopping event co-sponsored by Fashion Magazine as part of their #FashionMagazineXJoeFresh series of shopping parties in major Canadian cities like Toronto and Montreal. This fashion collaboration brought together a private shopping night that was attended by many of Ottawa’s Fashionistas and loyal fans of Joe Fresh. The sweets were unlimited (catered by the cuisine experts at Thyme & Again) drinks were flowing, the music was bumping and the lineups were, you got it, still very long but very much worth it as aside from the fact that there were more than plenty of beautiful accessories and apparel to choose from for spring, the first 200 guests also received a pretty amazing swag bag, full of full-sized products (guess how many times can we say full in this post?) with each purchase, no matter how much they spent.

While it wasn’t easy paring down our picks to just TOP FIVE PICKS for SPRING as this season, JOE FRESH really came through with a number of great selection that would appeal to a wide audience, Fashion Magazine has it’s Editor’s Picks to help you choose the trends that would be right for you. Additionally, it’s our difficult job (we do it because we love you! Can you feel the love?) to curate pieces to bring you a well-edited wardrobe for spring.

Here are TWENTY YORK STREET’s TOP 5 Spring Trends from JOE FRESH this year:

MAKING A POINT: THE POINTED SHOES

Round toe and peep toe are out this season and we’re welcoming back the pointed toe. Whether you prefer flats or heels, the sexy pointed shoes are what you should be looking for. Coming in a variety of colours and patterns, pointed shoes are a great way to add an unexpected edge to your outfit.

MAKING LONG STORY SHORT: THE CULOTTES

It isn’t a capri but it isn’t full length either. Showing off a hint of skin, a peek of your ankles are all the rage this season. Rolling up your jeans or getting a retro genie pant shows just enough to look sexy without giving it all away. Try it at work with a thick waist band, big pockets and some ankle strap stilettos to top it off. You’ll soon have boys falling at your feet – guaranteed.

NOD TO THE PAST: THE RETRO LOOK

We see many styles coming back and Joe Fresh has recycled some great trends this season. They’ve got 80’s inspired patterned button down t-shirts. I bought one because I love it! Wear it open or buttoned to the top, whichever you prefer, these colourful pieces are a great way to add flare to your outfit. What else is retro? The drop waist dress is back! It took a while, nearly a whole century, but the drop waist dress is something I’ve always found so cute and glad to see it back on the racks. Try it out, it’s flattering to most body types and it’s such a cute twist on your regular summer dress.

BORROWED FROM THE BOYS: THE BOYFRIEND LOOK

Light and bright is the style of this season, probably since the winter has been so long and frankly, terrifying. Find breezy, baggy bright coloured clothes all over Joe Fresh this season and bask in the sunshine! It’s long overdue. Find light coloured boyfriend jeans that hang off your hips, with big pockets, so you can get that casual look that tells the world – you’re cool and confident.

MAXIMUM IMPACT: THE MAXI

As always, comfort comes first. And nothing says style and comfort like a maxi skirt or dress. With lots of colour and print options to mix and match, maxis ensure you will look fabulous this summer.
