What a doozy this winter has been in Ottawa – and it seems to just keep on coming. Every year the cold weather outside and the dry heat inside to compensate takes a toll on our skin. We do what we can to bundle up and protect our skin but after 3 months of frigid weather, scarves and hats can only do so much. In the winter, protecting our skin from the elements needs to be one of the first things we do in the morning and the last thing we do at night.
The Aveeno ® Fresh Essentials ® collection is made up of three products: the Daily Exfoliating Scrub, Daily Moisturizer SPF 30, and Hydrating Night Cream. All three products contain Southernwood plant extract to “restore the skin’s moisture barrier for fresher healthier looking skin”. Aveeno ® is also fresh off making Jennifer Aniston their brand ambassador in 2014. Who does not want to have skin like hers – am I right?
AVEENO® FRESH ESSENTIALS® Daily Exfoliating Scrub
For my combination skin, the scrub containing natural luffa and coconut pulp was left my skin feeling clean, and soft. What I enjoyed about this scrub is that the exfoliating bits are teensy tiny so it was gentle enough for daily use and did not irritate existing dry patches. After about 4 days of use I noticed the drier/ red areas on my face subside.
AVEENO® FRESH ESSENTIALS® Daily Moisturizer SPF 30
Maybe it is because I am terribly pale – thanks, genetics!, and maybe it is because I am not a slow learner. But, I protect my skin with SPF of some sort 365 days a year. What’s that old saying? “Once burned twice shy”. Anything that helps to prevent sun damage or sunburns is a good thing and when it can be integrated it into something that is already a part of your morning routine it is even better. This moisturizer goes on light and spreads well for even coverage and after about 3 minutes it is absorbed enough that you can put makeup on top of it if
you choose. Otherwise, you are good to go!
AVEENO® FRESH ESSENTIALS® Night Cream
I was hesitant at first to use a night cream. Usually night cream paired with my skin is an oily mess in the morning. I was happy to find out that while this cream is heavier that the daily moisturizer, it does not leave your skin greasy. Its oil-free formula helps repair your skin overnight with vitamins A, C, E and is non-comedogenic. So there was no shine here the next morning!
Confession: I am generally a disloyal customer when it comes to face wash, beauty products and body care. Now, I will be the first to admit this comes from a deep seeded need to get the best deal at the register but it is also because I have not used any product that has really made a noticeable difference to my skin. After using these Aveeno ® Fresh Essentials ® products for over a week I can definitely see myself purchasing all three again. Knowing that these products are widely available at most Drug Stores is an added convenience.
