WINTER MUST-HAVE: TRY THE MICRO PEDI DIY

MICRO PEDI

EMJOI-MICRO PEDI

Aside from the fact that it is terribly cold outside, the harsh elements of winter can certainly wreak havoc on our skin, hair and body in many unfortunate ways. By bundling up and warming up in order to withstand this kind of sub zero temperature, we tend to load up and double up on socks, sweaters and heaters. As a result of that, we develop unsightly callouses on our feet, our heels start to crack and peel and our feet are just generally dry and withered.

While going to the spa or the nail salon is an option, sometimes, we just don’t have the time for it and let’s face it, I’d rather hide under my warm, fuzzy blanket than make a trek in this wintry blizzard to get my manicure and pedicure done. Although, if this is something you need and if you’re in the Ottawa / Outaouais Region, I’ve discovered this fantastic nail salon in Gatineau close to the Les Promenades mall. Family run and operated, Nancy Nail has got to have the best price with the best service for $30 for both mani and pedi. Plus they always serve me a hot cup of coffee while I’m waiting. Seriously, who can beat that price and that service?

FOR DIY PEDICURE AT HOME: TRY THE EMJOI MICRO-PEDI

Alas, as much as that is indeed an unbeatable price, I just don’t always have the time to sit down for a full mani and pedi. Hence, I’m quite excited to try at-home DIY alternatives like the Micro-Pedi from Emjoi Canada. A hard skin remover that buffs and smooths away hardened skin caused by running, working out, high heels and just overall, everyday activities.

MICRO-PEDI’S 360 DEGREES OF SPINNING ROLLER

Pros: Rolling at a rate of 30 times per second, the Micro-Pedi handheld device is an effective and safe way to have salon-like results – in the comfort of you own home.  In contrast to those metal and blade scraper they have at the nail salon, the roller has no sharp edges, it doesn’t cut into your skin while it buffs your rough areas away. It is battery operated (you need 2 AA batteries, which are not included) and it is portable so you can use it in the bathroom, bedroom or living room. I do suggest putting a towel or paper towel underneath to catch all the icky dry, dead skin cells.

Actually, they are not all that bad looking. As the rollers buffs your skin in high speed, it buffs hard skin into what looks like white ice shavings or fine snow.

HARD SKIN REMOVER BUT NOT FOR YOUR CUTICLES

Cons: While there are no major cons to Micro-Pedi, you have to understand that it does not replace an actual pedicure. You cannot use on your cuticles or nails, it is simply for buffing away hardened or dead and dry skin. It’s a fantastic tool to remove callous, cracked and peeling skin and you can see the results instantly. Here are my before photos. Though I dread showing these photos to you and I believe this is the first time my feet – naked – has been published for the world to see (okay, maybe not the entire world but by all of you lovely folks who decided to keep on reading despite the spoiler alert that you will see my feet! Gasp!).

SOLE CONDITION: BEFORE AND AFTER

The photo below the close-up shot of the Micro-Pedi roller is of my right foot. As you can see, it’s not as smooth and impeccable as I thought it to be. Clearly, I needed this portable gadget now more than ever. As I’ve mentioned before, you can see ‘shavings’ of your hardened skin fall off as your roll the Micro-Pedi back and forth over problem areas. Mine were the heel and the ball of the foot as I wear a lot of high heels and I teach and practice Yoga several times a week.

Now, are you ready to see the results?

Please bear in mind that this is the result of my ONE TIME USE of Micro-Pedi! Imagine the results over time when you use this tool a few times a week?

WINTER MUST-HAVE: DIY PEDICURE WITH MICRO-PEDI

Here are the AFTER PHOTOS of the right foot and the left foot with significant reduction of the hardened skin and callouses. The heel felt smoother even after one use. I’ve had quite a heaping of shaved snow, which is all very exciting to see as it reveals a healthier state of my sole. Do note that the rollers must be replaced after wearing out its buffing capacity. The replacements are available at many retail stores like Shoppers Drug Mart, Target, Costco or The Shopping Channel.
