You may remember this exact outfit in this post last year. If you look closely, everything is exactly the same except one thing. If you guessed it’s the Faux-Fur Trapper Hat, you’re exactly right Mister and Miss Smarty Pants!
The trapper hat is, in fact, one accessory that I am appalled (yes, I tend to be a bit dramatic when it comes to fashion and style) that not a lot of people rock it in the capital considering how unforgiving-ly cold Ottawa in the winter. It is a true Canadiana and I believe it’s an absolute winter must-have. This headpiece by itself coveys instant style and is, most of the time, a statement maker, aside from the obvious benefit of keeping your pretty little head warm and cozy.
Of course there are plenty of trapper hats that are handsomely made from real fur however, let’s face it, they are quite expensive and for the same (perhaps not quite the feel and the warmth) look and desired effect, the faux-fur versions offer a much more affordable alternative, as well as a more humane one.
I know this is one issue that is and will continue to be contentious in the fashion industry and though I do support the ethical production of our accessories and apparel (and I do exercise that support whenever I can), it would be hypocritical for me to say I am against fur 100%. I do after all own a Canada Goose Parka and a couple of UGG Australia boots. I’m not terribly proud of it but I can say for certain that when I wear my UGG Andirondak out to the biting cold, I feel confident that I can stand the elements a lot longer than 5 minutes.
