FORGET THE POPS OF COLOUR: GO NEUTRAL IN THE SUMMER

With every change of season comes a new set of trends in fashion, items so hot one must rush to the store and just gotta go and get them – stat. While I’m certainly not immune to the temptation of sporting the latest and the hottest, I have learned to exercise a little bit more constraint in recent years.

Has it been easy? Absolutely not.

As a fashion and lifestyle blogger, there is always that pressure (whether they admit it or not) to showcase the latest designer collaboration or to shop at the newest store opening and let me tell you something, it can be EXHAUSTING. It’s not only draining physically but more importantly, it is financially and psychologically exhausting. Yes, bloggers in all shape and form get gifted items all the time, gratis. But unless you are Atlantic Pacific’s Blaire Eddie or Cupcake and Cashmere’s Emily Schuman, you probably don’t have an entire wardrobe gifted, all year round.

EASY ON THE TRENDS: STICK WITH THE CLASSICS

Rumor says there are bloggers who has gone in debt because of their blogs. It’s precisely one aspect of blogging that we should all be cautious about as it is easy to get sucked in into that mindset of Keeping Up with the Joneses. When you see other “top fashion bloggers” sporting the hot off the shelf Isabel Marant designer Jacket or Alexander Wang it purse, it’s easy to feel dejected and second class with last season’s Michael Kors trapeze bags.

At least for me. And that’s not easy to openly admit.

TAKE A NEUTRAL STAND IN THE SUMMER

Hence, I’ve made a resolution with myself. One – though I do love keeping up with the trends sometimes, I have to stick to what I know is best for myself. The classics. Clean, elegant lines that are not too fussy like these head-to-toe neutral combo. Yes we love pops of colours but sometimes, you just want to take a neutral stand. This silk skirt from Banana Republic’s Monogram collection is so gorgeous in both look and feel that it instantly makes you feel regal. I just love it and it knows no season as I can anywhere pretty much all year long with simple additions of other items. And two – I need to make more designer friends.

Happy Humpday y’all!
