Well at least in terms of Social Media.
Twitter is its own independent Republic, non?
While Ellen DeGeneres has been getting mixed reviews for her hosting performance and getting quite the beating from the likes of the Hollywood Reporter who said she was surprisingly off her game at their post “Oscars TV Review: Ellen Flops in Long, Boring, Self-Involved Show.” Despite that, BBC News Reported that Sunday’s Oscars ceremony, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, was watched by 43 million TV viewers in the US.
According to broadcaster ABC, it was the biggest audience for the Academy Awards in a decade. According to ratings figures from Nielsen, the audience was 6.4% bigger than last year when the event was fronted by Seth McFarlane although the Academy’s goal of hitting younger audience was took a backseat this year.
THE#SELFIE THAT HAS SET A RECORD FOR MOST RETWEETS AND FEATURES ELLEN DEGENERES, ANGELINA JOLIE, BRAD PITT, MERYL STREEP, JULIA ROBERTS, BRADLEY COOPER, JENNIFER LAWRENCE, LUPITA NYONG’O, HER BROTHER, KEVIN SPACEY AND JARED LETO.
There is one big silver lining worth notable as it took down Twitter’s massive server momentarily courtesy of host Ellen DeGeneres most re-tweeted #SELFIE of all time making it a SOCIAL MEDIA SUPERSTAR. In fact, Twitter said that 14.7 million Oscar-related tweets were sent worldwide during the telecast.
TWEETED BY THE @THEELLENSHOW IF ONLY BRADLEY’S ARM WAS LONGER. BEST PHOTO EVER. #OSCARS
At 3,127,338 Retweets and 1,713,764 Favorites (as of press time), it was the #SELFIE that took Twitter down momentarily, as well as Obama’s most tweeted photo of all time. The previous record was set by no less than the Leader of the Free World, President Barack Obama. At a measly and highly unpopular (in comparison) almost 800 thousand plus retweets at 778,801, Obama had his run but now he is out. Crushed more like it. The previous record of 810,000 retweets for the photo of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama hugging after the 2012 election was completely shattered.
What is in is Ellen’s group #SELFIE taken in the middle of the Academy Awards ceremony of her, just hanging out with a bunch of friends. Friends with the combined STAR POWER of Hollywood fronted by Tinseltown’s current IT list: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, Kevin Spacey (best face ever!), Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, Lupita Nyong’o and her brother, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and of course, the formidable Meryl Streep.
While SKYFALL BLUE breaks down the bottom line, revealing that SAMSUNG, the undoubtedly most jubilant sponsor of the Academy Awards, is the biggest WINNER of the night, this is one notable milestone in this hyper tweeted and hyper shared world, this may very well go down as the most tweeted #tweet / #selfie of all time at more than 3 million proving once again the fast and furious power of social media. While the Oscar winners may have taken home the golden statues for the night but SAMSUNG the biggest winner of the night with the most brilliant product placement at the most star studded night in Hollywood.
Do you think there will be another most tweeted #SELFIE in this lifetime ever again?
