Winter Beauty and Fashion: Of Dark Lips and Mixed Tweed

Since starting our brand new feature here at Twenty York Street, we’ve been contemplating of other areas in life that we can implement the New Year, Better You mantra. Although this is mainly a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog (check out our 2014 Health and Fitness Resolution here), this doesn’t mean our topics of discussion are limited to only those that belong to this category. In fact, the lifestyle part of this encompasses all dimensions in one’s life as really, as much as you can compartmentalize aspects of our lives, there’s no better approach to progress than the holistic one.

This week, we’ll take on beauty and fashion and its relationship to one another as you really can’t separate the two. After all, an impeccable suit is less than remarkable with messy hair and unkempt nails, isn’t it?

Though going “matchy-matchy” certainly isn’t the name of the game, it does pay to consider which hair and make-up style goes with what outfit. As a general rule, less really is more as you opt for a barely there yet elegant make-up against a pretty bold fashion statement piece like a red lace and sequin ball gown. Always think of balance between the two.

Take for example this outfit and make-up. Though this Tweed dress from Banana Republic is understated, the woven metallic fabric and hints of pink makes it a standout therefore, a minimal make-up focusing on one feature is the perfect combo. A dark lip (here using a combination of  L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain, #186 Berry Persistent and #187 Infinite Fuchsia) to complement the dark hue of the dress is the appropriate choice of lip colour and by keeping the rest of the look minimal, really allows for a simple yet chic outfit during the winter.
