Why are we sooo very excited this week? Well, after a very successful stint at CBC NEWS Ottawa in it’s new show Our Ottawa, a weekly magazine television program featuring stories and people our city is talking about, we are invited back for a Holiday / Christmas special.
Join Lucy van Oldenbarneveld, me and Grace Oudomo of 613 Style this weekend, Saturday at 6:00 am or Sunday at 11:00 am, to look at what’s happening in our community, plus lifestyle tips and stories about health, business, music, arts and entertainment.
CBC NEWS OUR OTTAWA: New weekend magazine show
This segment is all about Christmas, gifts, shopping and one big challenge – a $100 budget for an entire family’s Christmas gifts! We had to be really creative on what we bought and have many things to consider: affordable, locally sourced, charitable component and a priceless gift – as in the one that you don’t have shell actual dollars on.
SWEETER BY THE DOZEN: Christmas Macaroons for Typhoon Haiyan Victims
One of the sweetest things I was really excited to showcase was the Sweeter by the Dozen’s Heavenly Macaroons! An Orleans, Ottawa based business by two entrepreneurial women Earleen and Rozie who not only offered a special Christmas price for these to die for sweets but also will be donating part of the proceeds to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines! Isn’t that a fabulous gift to give that also keeps giving?
THANN: Asian-inspired skincare, hair and body care line from Thailand
Aside from the many fantastic finds at the Dollar Store (I went to the Dollarama in Rideau Street, Ottawa) and the home made holiday crafts I created using new and old materials, I also showcased my favourite soap in the whole world – THANN’s Aromatic Wood Rice Soap! Courtesy of owner Fadi Ghaby (also SKYFALL BLUE’s CEO), the THANN soap, which normally retails for $6 is now on sale for $1 (can you believe this? A dollar for a soap that you typically have to stay at the world’s 5 star hotels to try) makes for a perfect stuffing stuffer. Even Lucy loved the terrific scent as it’s perfectly refreshing, energizing and soothing at the same time!
Watch Our Ottawa Saturdays at 6 a.m.., and again on Sundays and Mondays at 11 a.m. on CBC Television.
