Perhaps regarded as one of the world’s most watched fashion weeks, New York Fashion Week has continued to be an incubator of not only the upcoming trends in fashion but also in beauty. This year, there were several looks that really stood from the crowd and those that made an impact on me are the striking lip colours.
Featured #OOTD: Animal Print Coat & Pumps – Banana Republic + French Mani by KOKU NAIL BAR.
Amongst the sea of new and old beauty trends, the ones that stood out are Prabal Gurung’s Ladurée macaron inspired lips, RAG and Bone’s matte orange lips and Alexander Wang’s raw-yet-glowing beauty that strutted down the runway.
If you’re already a master of the red lips, the matte orange is not a far cry from that style. However, as I am not, I found Maybelline’s Sensational Vivids in Vibrant Mandarine lippy really stood out for me and I thought about toning it down with some pale nude gloss. In the end, I quite like how it striking it was that I submitted this look to Fashion Magazine’s Beauty Panel (see the step-by-step instructions below) on Spring 2014 beauty trends: 6 takes on the best hair and makeup from New York Fashion Week.
Wonder if this orange crush look made it to this year’s Emmy’s? Well, I guess stay tuned for that as we’ll bring you our top picks of the Emmys 2013: Top 7 best dressed on the red carpet shortly! Plus did I mention a very exciting give-away?

This year’s New York Fashion Week presented some very outstanding look that although bold, can be modified a bit to translate to off the runway for a more subtle every day look.
One such make-up trend is the defiant lip colour seen at Rag & Bone, a strikingly bold matte orange lip against a barely there overall make-up. Keeping the same thin cat-eye look using precision style eyeliner, make sure to apply at least two coats of mascara to get away with light or no eye shadow. Counter that look by choosing a bright orange lippy that matches your skin tone. Line the lips to prevent your lipstick from bleeding and use either a lip brush to apply your lipstick or use your index finger to dab the colour to achieve a more matte finish. Lightly brush your face with a setting or highlighting powder all over your T-zone for a flawless finish!
