Dropping names isn’t a considered  acceptable in most social circles unless you’re talking about these names and this social circle: Simons, Nordstrom, Victoria’s Secret, J. Crew! These are just a few big name brands and global and national retail institutions that are set to open at the new redeveloped Rideau Centre! As the city’s who’s who gathered at the beautifully lit (by the sun no less) Ottawa Convention Centre, a per-announcement of the Rideau Centre Redevelopment Project was made by Cadillac Fairview, owner and manager of the Rideau Centre.

With a massive budget of $360 million and a completion date of 2016,  Cadillac Fairview is hell bent on creating an exciting retail environments that deliver best-in-class stores,  high quality dining opportunities and perhaps more sustainable and environmentally friendly best practices. This redevelopment of Rideau Centre marks a new era for the malls over 30 year history and will re-establish the fact that Rideau Centre is the destination of choice in the Nation’s Capital. Aside from the world class retailers mentioned, the existing Harry Rosen store will be transformed into a flagship location reflecting the retailer’s latest developments and store design. A four level expansion will add 230,000 square feet of leasable area as well as a three level underground parking garage.

Here’s our insider coverage of the launch and do follow @20YS in Twitter and Instagram for more insider’s report and hot updates about the Rideau Centre Redevelopment Project and all other notable news and events in the city!

Perhaps of interest to historians and architecture enthusiasts, the redesigned shopping centre will include significant façade enhancements along Rideau Street including a refurbished Ogilvy Building heritage façade and a complete interior renovation that will feature new quartz flooring, enhanced lighting, glass guardrails and modern amenities.  For the public, the redeveloped mall will also include two direct light rail transit access points to Rideau Station, a key stop along Ottawa’s new Confederation Line, which will hopefully ease up Ottawa’s worsening traffic situation.
