What better way to embrace the coming of Spring than to talk about what’s hot in the beauty department this season! Twenty York Street’s Toronto Fashion and Beauty Blogger Elaine, the beauty, blog and brains (BBB, ha!) behind the one of Canada’s top beauty blogs: Toronto Beauty Reviews shares, with us her Top 6 (can’t do just 5 folks!) Beauty Picks this season + Bonus picks on the handy tools that makes applying these beauty products a perfect spring breeze!
When it comes to cosmetics I don’t believe that the more expensive the product is the better. In fact some of my favourite products and yes, the ones I use daily can be easily found at the drug store or other mass market retailers and are very affordable!
MARCELLE BB CREAM
For foundation try Marcelle’s BB cream Beauty Balm. This product is by far my favourite BB cream so far. And now it comes in an anti-aging formula with SPF 20 and a golden glow version to get that perfect summer time glow.
L’OREAL TRUE MATCH LUMI HEALTH LUMINOUS MAKE-UP
If you need a little bit more coverage but still like that healthy glow look I also love L’Oreal True Match Lumi Health Luminous Make-up (Elaine uses Nude Beige). It’s really buildable and has a natural looking finish. It’s also not drying at all so your skin feels and looks natural.
L’OREAL VISIBLE LIFT SERUM ABSOLUTE CONCEALER
For those pesky under eye circles I reach for L’Oreal Visible Lift Serum Absolute Concealer, it’s really light weight but has excellent coverage and won’t settle into fine lines so you look awake and refreshed even if you’re not!
PIXI EYE BRIGHT LINER
Speaking of looking awake, one of my newest discoveries is from Pixi, a UK line that has launched in Canada. I absolutely love their Eye Bright Liner, which is a waterproof eye liner meant for your inner rims to brighten up the eyes and make them look whiter. Try it out for yourself and you’ll see what I mean!
MARK MAKE IT RICH LIP COLOUR CRAYON
For my lips, my go to has been the mark Make It Rich Lip Colour Crayon. Okay, so this isn’t found at your local drugstore but they’re easily found online or just contact your local Avon representative. The pigment of these lip crayons is amazing and they leave a great non-drying stain on your lips that even if you don’t reapply you will still have saturated colour on all day. I have a soft spot for Peony and Royale.
BENEFIT THEY’RE REAL MASCARA
Probably my biggest drug store splurge would be on the Benefit They’re Real Mascara. But seriously…most mascaras are just okay. Either that or they’re really bad. The effect I get with this mascara? I think it’s worth spending a little bit more money especially for something that I wear daily and has high impact!
BONUS TOP PICKS: FAVOURITE TOOLS OF THE TRADE
And let’s not forget about tools! My favourite brush in the world is the EcoTools Bamboo Domed Bronzer Brush. It’s so soft and perfect for setting my makeup with loose powder. I also love the affordable Real Techniques Your Base Core Collection, which contains everything you need for a perfect and flawless face.
There you have it, my favourite (almost all) drugstore brands. You don’t have to spend a lot to get the look you want!
