DAY OF PINK OTTAWA: 1 IN 6 CANADIANS WILL WEAR PINK TO STOP BULLYING ON APRIL 12, 2017 – WILL YOU BE ONE OF THEM?

Do you know what April 12, 2017 is? Aside from it being a promising bright spring day, it’s more importantly the International Day of Pink! A day where communities across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and all forms of bullying. Each year on the second Wednesday of April, millions of people wear pink and take a stand. It is said that 1 in 6 Canadians will wear pink on April 12, 2017 – will you be one of them?

Jeremy Dias executive director of CCGSD

“Celebrating this day is truly remarkable. It is truly a grassroots local-international youth initiative to make the world a better place. You just don’t see things like this all the time.”

Jeremy Dias, Executive Director, CCGSD

PINK IS THE COLOUR OF THE REVOLUTION – WILL YOU JOIN THE REVOLUTION

What started out as a small act of defiance 12 years ago in Nova Scotia became The International Day of Pink. The Day of Pink is a symbol, a spark that unites and empowers and inspires youth across this country to create amazing social change. It all began when high school students saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt being bullied. The students intervened but wanted to do more to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying. They decided to purchase pink shirts, and a few days later got everyone at school to arrive wearing pink, standing in solidarity, working together to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying. Today, that cause has been adopted all over the world.

In Ottawa, April 12 marks an observance celebration that will include speeches from Senator Mobina Jaffer, Randy Boissonault, and Senator Rene Cormier in addition to speeches and performances from the faculty of Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO) and its students. You can also bet that many prominent politicians across the country including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have provided their tremendous support for the Day of Pink.
